EPL PREDICTIONS: WEEK 27

Updated: Mar 8

Burnley (H) vs Arsenal (A)

Head to Head: Arsenal 10 wins Burnley 1 win 2 draws

The Gunners had an impressive win against the high-flying Foxes last week. Burnley did beat Arsenal in the reverse fixture last year and if they can win at home would complete the double over Arsenal in the league for the first time since since 1962/63. The Clarets may rely on Ashley Barnes heavily as he is the only member of the current squad to have scored against the Gunners in the league. While Burnley normally have a good record at home against top PL sides, Arsenal seem to have found the key to playing well at Turf Moor going unbeaten in their last 8 matches (W4 D4) while also keeping a clean sheet in four of their last 5. Look for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to add to his tally of goals (7) against Burnley which is more than he has scored against any other side in the competition.

Prediction: Arsenal 3-1

Sheffield United (H) vs Southampton (A)

Head to Head: Southampton 4 wins Sheffield United 1 win 2 draws

The Blades pulled off the unthinkable over the weekend finally winning a game in a shock win against high flyers Aston Villa. For the Saints, the season has gone horribly wrong and a strong early start to the season has been all but forgotten and they are now languishing in 14th spot on the ladder. For the Saints, Takumi Minamino & Ibrahim Diallo are unavailable but Kyle Walker-Peters is in contention while for Sheffield United, Chris Basham & Jayden Bogle will be available for the next match against Leicester City. Both teams are desperate to finish their season on a positive note but Sheffield United look destined for the drop while the Saints will look to fight another year next season.

Prediction: Southampton 1-0

Aston Villa (H) vs Wolverhampton Wanderers (A)

Head to Head: Aston Villa 5 wins Wolves 3 wins 3 draws

Villa were shock losers to bottom side Sheffield United midweek and will look to bounce back but face tricky opposition in Wolves who have found some form in the second half of the season and are now up to 12th position on the ladder. Villa will miss the creative spark of captain Jack Grealish who is still recovering from a lower leg injury suffered during training. Matty Cash & Wesley continue their rehab & Kourtney Hause is expected to rejoin training next week. In the absence of Jack Grealish, look for manager Dean Smith to get Ollie Watkins to step up to the task. Watkins already has 7 home goals this season, the most by a Villa player since 2012/13.

Prediction: 1-1 draw

Brighton & Hove Albion (H) vs Leicester City (A)

Head to Head: Leicester 5 wins Brighton 2wins 2 draws

Brighton will be looking for their 1st win in 8 PL matches against Leicester (D2 L5). Leicester striker Jamie Vardy has been involved in 8 goals in his last 6 appearances against Brighton. However, Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers is dealing with an extended injury curse with Harvey Barnes (knee), Jonny Evans (calf), James Justin & Ayoze Perez (both knee), Dennis Praet (hamstring) & Wes Morgan (back) all out. Brighton will be without Tariq Lamptey who has suffered a hamstring setback. Brighton have played some fantastic, attacking football but don't have the results to show for it and manager Graham Potter may just have to park the bus and score points to save the Seagulls from falling into relegation trouble.

Prediction: Leicester 2-0

West Bromwich Albion (H) vs Newcastle United (A)

Head to Head: Newcastle 12 wins West Brom 5 wins 6 draws

West Brom have played 8 PL matches on a Sunday and have 0 wins having drawn 2 and lost 6 of the games played on Sunday. This could be a great opportunity for West Brom to break that record as Newcastle will be without two of their influential players in Miguel Almiron & Allan Saint-Maxim who both picked up injuries in the game against Wolves and are out until April.

Prediction: West Brom 1-0

Liverpool (H) vs Fulham (A)

Head to Head: Liverpool 18 wins Fulham 6 wins 5 draws

The defending champions face Fulham in a match they must win to arrest their dramatic collapse in form. The Reds have 3 points in their last 5 matches (1W 4L) while Fulham have 8 points from their last 5 (W2 D2 L1) and are on a 7 match unbeaten streak which is the longest in their PL history. Jurgen Klopp has never lost a PL game at home to a newly promoted side having won 14 & drawn 1 in 15 of those matches.

Prediction: Liverpool 2-0

Manchester City (H) vs Manchester United (A)

Head to Head: ManUtd 23 wins ManCity 15 wins 9 draws

City have to win or draw to set a new club record of staying unbeaten in 28 matches in all competitions. Both teams are unbeaten in their last 5 matches but ManUtd have been vulnerable in defence after frustrating draws against Everton (3-3), West Brom (1-1) & Crystal Palace (0-0) recently. David De Gea is unavailable as he is back in Spain for the birth of his first child while Paul Pogba & Donny Van de Beek are game time decisions. The Citizens go into the match with no fresh injury concerns and long term injured Nathan Ake could also be available. The recent tide has turned in City's favour in Manchester in terms of form and results in these Manchester derbies and the last time City lost consecutive home matches against the Red Devils in the PL was April 2010.

Prediction: Man City 2-0

Tottenham Hotspur (H) vs Crystal Palace (A)

Head to Head: Spurs 13 wins Crystal Palace 3 wins 7 draws

Spurs have a 11 match unbeaten streak against Palace, their longest ongoing run versus any current side. Spurs striker Harry Kane loves scoring on Sundays having scored 12 goals in 16 matches, more than any PL player this season. Palace will welcome back Wilfried Zaha who is arguably their best player and will look to capture some of the form that saw them hold ManUtd to a draw last week and will be looking to win consecutive league matches for the first time since June 2020

Prediction: Spurs 3-1

Chelsea (H) vs Everton (A)

Head to Head: Chelsea 26 wins Everton 12 wins 19 draws

Ex Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti will be seeking to become the first head coach in the PL era to win at Stamford Bridge after having managed Chelsea in the competition. But in his path lies new manager Thomas Tuchel who himself is looking to become the first head coach in PL history to see his side keep a clean sheet in each of his first 5 home matches in charge in the competition. Chelsea are unbeaten in 25 home games against Everton (W14 D11) only bettered by their 27 game unbeaten streak at home to Tottenham Hotspur between 1990 & 2016. The Toffees are breathing down Chelsea's heels with just a point separating them from Chelsea and having won their last 3 matches including a first win at Liverpool in 22 years 3 weeks ago.

Prediction: Everton 2-1

West Ham United (H) vs Leeds United (A)

Head to Head: Leeds 14 wins West Ham 3 wins 4 draws

The Hammers will be relying on Michail Antonio to galvanise the team to another win after a loss to Man City last weekend. The striker has been involved in 19 goals in his last 22 starts for the Hammers (15 goals, 4 assists) but Leeds are also his bogey team as he has not scored in 8 league appearances against them. The Whites are staggeringly inconsistent as a team and can sometimes produce brilliant attacking football and go missing at other times. Their last 17 matches has not produced a draw (W8 D9) which leaves Marcelo Biesla's side in mid table but they are far better than their current league position.

Prediction: West Ham 1-0
