EPL PREDICTIONS: WEEK 24

Updated: Feb 17

Leicester City (H) vs Liverpool (A)

Head to Head: Liverpool 16 wins Leicester 7 wins 6 draws

Huge news for Leicester as they lose James Justin for the season to a ACL injury suffered midweek FA Cup win against Brighton & Hove Albion. For reigning champions Liverpool, they have not suffered 3 defeats in a row since Nov 2014 when now Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers was in charge. The last 5 matches between these two teams has seen Liverpool win 4 out of 5 (1 draw) while scoring 12 goals and conceding 3 goals.Fabinho is out for the Reds with a muscle injury while Diogo Jota is still a few weeks away from full fitness.

Prediction: Liverpool 2-1

Crystal Palace (H) vs Burnley (A)

Head to Head: Crystal Palace 5 wins Burnley 5 wins 1 draw

For the Eagles, Wilfried Zaha is still unavailable with a hamstring injury plus a trio of James'es (McArthur, Tomkins & McCarthy) are all sidelined which could make for a brittle defence for Burnley to score against. For Burnley manager Sean Dyche, Charlie Taylor will be a game time decision and striker Chris Wood is in doubt with a hamstring issue.

Prediction: Burnley 1-0

Manchester City (H) vs Tottenham Hotspur (A)

Head to Head: Spurs 25 wins ManCity 15 wins 7 draws

Since losing to Spurs in November, City have gone 14 matches unbeaten in the PL winning the last 10. It doesn't get better for Spurs manager Jose Mourinho with City having won their last 7 out of 10 at home against Spurs (D2 L1). City will most likely welcome back Ruben Dias, Rodri & Sergio Aguero but Fernandinho will miss out while Spurs will be without Serge Aurier. The lively and influential Giovani Lo Celso is still out for Spurs while Gareth's Bale swansong loan deal is looking more like a dream turning into a nightmare with the former Spurs man hardly featuring in Mourinho's team selection.

Prediction: ManCity 4-1

Brighton & Hove Albion (H) vs Aston Villa (A)

Head to Head: Brighton 1 win Aston Villa 1 win 1 draw.

Both teams have won 3 of their last 5 matches but Brighton's record is particularly impressive having beaten Spurs/Leeds/Liverpool in that trio of wins. For Villa, Jack Grealish has been the star with 16 goal involvements (6 goals, 10 assists) and Ollie Watkins is back amongst the goals after a lean spell. Brighton will be looking to win consecutive PL games at home for the first time since Nov 2019. Villa have won 6 away PL matches this season, their most since 2009/10 season when they had 9 away wins.

Prediction: Aston Villa 2-1

Southampton (H) vs Wolverhampton Wanderers (A)

Head to Head: Southampton 3 wins Wolves 2 wins 1 draw

Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl will be looking to turn around his team's form. The Saints, after a bright start, are in freecall having lost their last 5 matches in a row. For Wolves manager, Nuno Esperito Santo, this season has been a trial by fire with injuries, a tiring squad trying to manage both domestic and premier competition. Struggling to score from open play with the continued absence of Raul Jimenez, Wolves have scored 12 goals from set pieces including penalties than they have created through open play (11). As a consequence, Wolves haven't scored the opening goal of a game in their last 13 matches. Only three teams have had a longer run without scoring an opening goal in their PL matches. Man City (16) in 1995, Coventry City (14) IN 1996 & West Ham (14) in 1997

Prediction: Wolves 1-0

West Bromwich Albion (H) vs Manchester United (A)

Head to Head: ManUtd 16 wins West Brom 4 wins 5 draws

West Brom have conceded the most goals in the PL this season with 54 conceded and Man Utd have scored the most with 49 for. Sam Allardyce has just 1 victory in 22 PL matches against ManUtd since Feb 2016 (D5 L16) so he will be hoping new signings Robert Snodgrass, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Mbaye Diagne & Okay Yokuslu make an instant impact to help improve the team's attacking fortunes. For ManUtd, Paul Pogba is out but upfront Edison Cavani is looking dangerous after 2 goals in his last two games as a starter.

Prediction: ManUtd 3-0

Arsenal (H) vs Leeds United (A)

Head to Head: Arsenal 12 wins Leeds 8 wins 5 draws

The Gunners welcome back Bernd Leno & David Luiz from suspension but influential midfield dynamo Thomas Partey is out with a hamstring strain. The Gunners have a terrific record against promoted sides in the PL and are unbeaten in 27 of those matches (W23 D4) since losing to both West Brom & Newcastle in 2010/11. Leeds have won their last 2 away PL games against Leicester & Newcastle and a win against the Gunners will give them three away PL wins for the first time since August 2002. Marcelo Biesla's team look dangerous upfront with the emergence of Raphinha as a genuine attacking threat along with Patrick Bamford. Between the two of them, they have 25 goal involvements (16 goals, 9 assists) out of Leeds 38 overall goals.

Prediction: Leeds United 1-0

Everton (H) vs Fulham (A)

Head to Head: Everton 18 wins Fulham 9 wins 2 draws

Everton managed a last gasp winner against ManUtd last week to snatch a draw but lose goal scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin to a hamstring injury. Livewire midfield loanee James Rodriguez from Real Madrid is available after overcoming a calf issue as is midfielder Andre Gomes and long term injured Allan could return next week. Fulham are unbeaten in 4 away PL matches and looking to extend that run to 5 games but Everton have won all 14 of their home PL matches against Fulham, the best 100% winning record of any team versus an opponent on home soil in the competition's history.

Prediction: Everton 3-1

West Ham United (H) vs Sheffield United (A)

Head to Head: Sheffield United 3 wins West Ham 2 wins 2 draws

The Hammers are in 6th position on the ladder and looking to cement their fine run this season under manager David Moyes with a won against bottom of table Sheffield United. Mikhail Antonio is close to a return but Angelo Ogbonna is out. Issa Diop will be assessed for a head injury but Andriy Yarmolenko & Fabian Balbuena are unlikely to feature this week.

For the Blades, Enda Stevens & George Baldock are both doubtful. Hammers manager David Moyes has won all 6 home games against Sheffield United across all competitions. The Hammers have also scored the most goals this season in the PL from corners & indirect free kicks (12) while Sheffield United have conceded the most from those situations alongside Leeds United with 10.

Prediction: West Ham 2-1

Chelsea (H) vs Newcastle United (A)

Head to Head: Chelsea 26 wins Newcastle 13 wins 12 draws

Chelsea have lost just one of their 25 PL home games against Newcastle (W18 D6) with that lone defeat coming back in May 2012. For Newcastle manager Steve Bruce, the fight to keep the Geordies safe from relegation got just that bit harder with news that Callum Wilson will be out for upto 8 weeks with a hamstring injury. Fabian Schaar (knee) & Javier Manquillo (ankle) face similar time out. Jamaal Lascalles, Federico Fernandez and Ciaran Clark could feature. Miguel Almiron has scored 3 goals in his last 4 games for Newcastle as many as he had in his previous 32 in the competition and will need to step up in place of the injured Callum Wilson. New manager Thomas Tuchel will be looking to make it 4 victories in a row for the Blues and keep them in contention for CL qualification places.

Prediction: Chelsea 4-1

Burnley (H) vs Fulham (A)

Head to Head: Fulham 2 wins Burnley 1 win 1 draw

A relegation six pointer between the Clarets & the Cottagers. Both teams won on the weekend but Fulham's win over Everton was highly impressive. Burnley have lost captain Ben Mee to a head injury while Matej Vydra, Dale Stephens & Chris Wood are all doubtful. Despite the injuries, Burnley will be full of confidence going into this home game at Turf Moor. The Clarets are unbeaten in 30 home games against Fulham (W25 D5), the longest ever undefeated run against an opponent at Turf Moor. For Fulham, Aleksander Mitrovic will be absent but manager Scott Parker will be hoping that Josh Maja who scored both goals against Everton on the weekend can get amongst the goals while the likes of Ademola Lookman (3 assists) & Bobby De Cordova-Reid will present a headache for Sean Dyche's Burnley defence with their pace and passing.

Prediction: Fulham 2-1

Everton (H) vs Manchester City (A)

Head to Head: ManCity 19 wins Everton 18 wins 9 draws

Difficult to know which Everton side turns up for this game but suffice to say anything less than a 100% effort will be ruthlessly exploited by a City team that under Pep Guardiola is humming like a racing machine. City are yet to lose a match since the turn of the year and with a win against Everton (their 10th win) will break Manchester United's record of 9 consecutive wins in a calendar year in 2009. German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan will likely sit this one out with a groin strain but Ruben Dias & Fernandinho will most likely be available as will Sergio Aguero from the bench. Everton have won just one of their last 14 PL matches against the Citizens (D4 L9) with the lone win at Goodison Park in January 2017. The Toffees last lost 3 home games under Roberto Martinez in March 2016 and current manager Carlo Ancelotti will be hoping to keep his record of not having lost 3 home games since 2006 (AC Milan) intact. A task made harder with the confirmed absence of leading goal-scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Prediction: Manchester City 4-1

Last Week: 3 out of 9

Overall season: 109 out of 237

Prediction Success: 45.9%
