Sheffield United (H) vs West Bromwich Albion (A)
Head to Head: West Brom 1 win Sheffield United 0 wins 0 draws
The Blades have work to do if they are to survive relegation this season and matches like this against West Brom who are just above them on the ladder become vital "six pointers". Both teams have shown improved performances in the 2nd half of the season with West Brom striker Matheus Pereira leading the Baggies with 8 goal involvements (5 goals, 3 assists). For manager Chris Wilder, having striker Oli McBurnie fit and amongst the goals will help boost his chances of keeping the Blades in the premier league..only just.
Prediction: West Brom 2-1
Wolverhampton Wanderers (H) vs Arsenal (A)
Head to Head: Arsenal 8 wins Wolves 2 wins 3 draws
Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo continues to deal with injuries to his squad which are clearly having an effect on his team's ability to win matches. Wolves are on a run of 8 games without a win whilst their opponents have turned their season around with one loss in 9 games. A selection nightmare looms for the Wolves manager with Rayan Ait-Nouri, Jonny & Marcal all still out. Romain Saiss is a doubt with a knock and Raul Jimenez is still in recovery but is making progress from his horrific skull fracture sustained in this reverse fixture in November last year. For the Gunners, Alexander Lacazette has 4 goals in his last 3 away matches whilst Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Bukayo Saka, Dani Ceballos & Pablo Mari are all back in training.
Prediction: Arsenal 3-0
Manchester United (H) vs Southampton (A)
Head to Head: ManUtd 27 wins Southampton 7 wins 9 draws
Another matchup of two teams heading in opposite directions. The Saints have lost 3 in a row and are now in mid table. The Red Devils have recaptured some of their form under star midfielder Bruno Fernandes and are 2nd on the ladder. Theo Walcott, Oriol Romeu & Ibrahima Diallo all left with injuries last weekend in the loss to Aston Villa & manager Ralph Hasenhuttl will also be sweating on the availability of Kyle Walker-Peters. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer will be looking for his team to get back to winning ways to challenge Man City for the league top spot after a frustrating draw against the Gunners & a dispirited performance in a shock loss to Sheffield United in the past 2 games.
Prediction: ManUtd 3-2
Newcastle United (H) vs Crystal Palace (A)
Head to Head: Newcastle 10 wins Crystal Palace 4 wins 5 draws
After a run of 5 defeats and a run of 9 games without a win, Newcastle were deserved winners last weekend against the Toffees. For Palace manager Roy Hodgson, the availability of a number of goal-scorers in his squad is a bonus. With the likes of Wilfried Zaha, Christian Benteke, Jordan Ayew, Michy Batshuayi, Eberiche Eze who scored the winning goal last week and Andros Townsend, the Eagles have plenty of players to trouble the Newcastle defence with. A match of two of the Premier League's most experienced English managers with a combined 798 games between them (Bruce 451, Hodgson 347). Eagles manager has the better record against his counterpart in their 10 meetings so far, having won 4 drawn 4 and lost just 2.
Prediction: Crystal Palace 2-1
Burnley (H) vs Manchester City (A)
Head to Head: Manchester City 9 wins Burnley 1 win 3 draws
After the mauling Southampton received at the hands of Manchester United, arch rivals Manchester City will be looking to do the same against Burnley. The Clarets have been the Citizens bunny with City having scored 20 goals for and conceded the solitary goal in their last 5 PL matchups. Further headache for manager Sean Dyche who has managed a crippling injury list with Robbie Brady in doubt with an Achilles issue, Chris Wood in doubt with hamstring issues & Ashley Barnes & Charlie Taylor both game day decisions. With 5 wins in their last 5 matches and sitting on top of the ladder, City will not be disadvantaged with the absence of Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Nathan Ake.
Prediction: Manchester City 5-0
Fulham (H) vs Leicester City (A)
Head to Head: Fulham 3 wins Leicester 1 win 3 draws
Leicester will be looking to get back to winning ways after the weekend's shock loss against an impressive Leeds side. Lucky for the Foxes, they have earned the 2nd most points from away games (23) after Manchester United and are unbeaten in 7 away matches in all competitions (W5 D2). Fulham have no injury concerns and after another draw last weekend, will be looking to win against Leicester who they have lost just once to in 7 PL meetings (W3 D3).
Prediction: Leicester City 3-1
Leeds United (H) vs Everton (A)
Head to Head: Leeds 8 wins Everton 7 wins 10 draws
Leeds are looking dangerous with a commanding performance against Leicester on the weekend putting them in sight of the top half of the table. For Everton, a shock defeat against Newcastle would have had manager Carlo Ancelotti fuming at his team's inability to capitalise on a good first half of the season. Their lack of form has definitely impacted on main striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin who had 10 goals from 29 shots in his first 9 PL games of the season (34% conversion rate) and in his next 9 appearances he has 1 goal from 19 shots (5% conversion rate). Patrick Bamford on the other hand has been consistently amongst the goals with 15 goal involvements (11 goals, 4 assists) in his 20 appearances this season bettered only by Tony Yeboah who had 17 goal involvements in his first 20 games for the club.
Prediction: Leeds 1-0
Aston Villa (H) vs West Ham United (A)
Head to Head: Aston Villa 13 wins West Ham 10 wins 20 draws
After last season's narrow escape from relegation on the final day of the season, Villa are playing with some poise and confidence this season and in 9th spot. The Hammers have also performed remarkably well under the steady hand of David Moyes and despite the loss to Liverpool on the weekend sit in 5th position on the ladder. Villa have kept a clean sheet in their last 3 games at home. The last time they had 4 clean sheets at home was October 2001. For West Ham, Jesse Lingard will be looking to get his stalled career back on track with fresh new surroundings.
Prediction: West Ham 2-1
Liverpool (H) vs Brighton and Hove Albion
Head to Head: Liverpool 6 wins Brighton 0 wins 1 draw
An impressive win for the Reds against quality opposition in West Ham on the weekend and the Reds seem to have righted their stalling premiership defence with 2 straight wins. Brighton were impressive in winning too, beating Spurs in a shock but the Seagulls have played some fantastic, free-flowing football without seeing results go their way. The Reds have won 12 straight against Brighton in all competitions (W10 D2). Their last defeat to Brighton was a 2-0 loss in the FA Cup in January 1984. Defender Joel Matip will miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury but the Reds have bought in reinforcements in the CB position with Ben Davies arriving from Preston in a shock move and Ozan Kabak from Schalke04 in the Bundesliga.
Prediction: Liverpool 2-1
Tottenham Hotspur (H) vs Chelsea (A)
Head to Head: Chelsea 30 wins Spurs 7 wins 20 draws
Spurs are without Harry Kane who went down injured in their loss to Liverpool. Spurs electric start to the season and the euphoria of getting Gareth Bale on loan have both disappeared as Spurs fall over once again as the Great Pretenders. For manager Jose Mourinho, it will be bittersweet facing his old team where he had so much success in his first stint in the PL. He will be facing Thomas Tuchel in the dugout who will be the 15th manager in the Roman Abramovich era. Chelsea did manage a win last week against Burnley while Spurs followed on from their loss to Liverpool with another shock loss to Brighton. To further compound his problems, Mourinho will be missing Giovanni Lo Celso & Dele Alli who are both out with injuries.
Prediction: Chelsea 3-2
Last Week: 6 out of 10
Overall season: 103 out of 219
